Did you know that around 1 in 10 young people identifies as being same sex attracted, sex or gender diverse (SSAGD)? All people have their own sexuality and gender identity, whether they have thought much about it or not, and it is something unique to only them, that can change over time.

For some people, thinking about sexuality and gender identity can be challenging. This might be because they don’t feel like they fit in to a certain label that they feel they should, or because they feel different from their friends.

Here at Maroondah Youth Services we recognize the unique challenges that can be faced by SSAGD young people, and are committed to making all of our programs and events a safe space for all young people, no matter whether they’re male, female, like girls, boys, both, neither, or just aren’t sure!

Recently we have had an important discussion about how we can be as supportive as possible of SSAGD young people. We would love to talk to anyone who is interested in supporting these young people (gay, straight, whatever!) about their ideas around how we can do this.

If you are a young person interested in sharing your ideas, or needing someone to chat to, you can contact Maroondah Youth Services on 9294 5700.
