Chinese New Year falls on Monday January 23 in 2012, but the celebrations will be going for a whole week all over Melbourne. The year of the dragon celebrations will include street stalls, firecrackers and over 50 performances!

The Chinese New Year Festival features traditional and contemporary Chinese cultural activities, festivities, dances, Chinese opera and singing, karaoke competition, numerous stalls of culinary delights, arts and crafts, Chinese chess competitions, lion dances, dragon parades, calligraphy and children's events.

This festival is open to all, young and old and its aim is to share the Chinese Cultural heritage of Melbourne's Chinese community. In recent years the festival has been one of Melbourne's most celebrated festivals and is great for the whole family.

City of Melbourne presents the 2012 Chinese New Year Festival. There will be celebrations over 7 days at various venues showcasing over 50 performances, 24 stalls, lion dances, dragon dances and lots of fire crackers.

Box Hill Chinese New Year Festival 2012

Each year the Asian Business Association of Whitehorse in conjunction with Council hosts one of the largest Chinese New Year celebrations in Melbourne.

Held in the Box Hill mall precinct, the celebrations include activities, entertainment and more than 100 merchandise and food stalls.

The Asian Business Association of Whitehorse hosts the Chinese New Year Festival in partnership with Whitehorse City Council.

The 2012 event will be held in Box Hill on Saturday 21 January 2012.

Highlights of the event will include traditional dragon/lion dances, food stalls, music and children's entertainment.

The Chinese New Year & Lantern Festival is one of the largest and most attended City of Monash festivals, it includes food, performance, dance, costumes, activities and much more.

This Festival is one of the many festivals held over the 15 days of the Chinese New Year.

This year the Chinese Events and Organising Committee Inc. have coordinated a diverse and culturally engaging program, celebrating the year of the Dragon.
