FReeZA
The Maroondah FReeZA Group is a group of around 12 people aged 15-21 who are responsible for hosting live local music events. Their primary role is to run the gigs, which involves promotion, booking, budgeting, audio/visual production, stage management, liaising with bands, musicians, booking agents and managers, and maintaining good old teamwork. As young people working professionally to organise all-age musical events, another important aspect of their role is to set a positive example for their peers.
In order to gain the skills to run EV’s gigs, all group members receive free and compulsory training provided by Maroondah City Council’s Youth Services for the first two months after their induction. This training involves a weekly course in audio/visual production and occupational health and safety, plus a week-long event management course that includes budgeting, communication and teamwork skills, and promotional strategies.
Why is FReeZA at EV's so ace?
Being a Maroondah FReeZA Group member gives young people interested in a career in the music industry and/or event management excellent hands-on experience that will also be beneficial for future reference and job opportunities. It's also great for those who just want to get involved in their community. It also aims to enhance personal skills and give experience in a professional environment. Former members have gone on to work in sound production and event management. Really, the opportunities that are opened up the FReeZA program are endless.
