Peer Engagement Program (PEP)

For a number of years Youth Services had committed to developing a Youth Engagement Strategy that details how Maroondah City Council consults with young people and youth stakeholders

This idea has been developed into the Peer Engagement Program (PEP), which is now one of the five engagement methods outlined in the Maroondah City Council’s Youth Engagement Strategy (endorsed by Council in March 2011).

The aim of PEP is to:

To involve young people in the development and implementation of Council’s youth engagement processes

PEP objectives are:

• Apply a youth participation approach to developing and implementing Council’s youth engagement processes, particularly the large-scale consultation
• Recruit a group of young people for Youth Services to work in partnership with through regular meetings
• In partnership with young people, determine the content and strategies of the large-scale consultation
• In partnership with young people, consult with a large number of young people and stakeholders about the needs and issues of young people in Maroondah
• In partnership with young people, determine how the findings of the consultation will be reported to the community and implement this accordingly

Participants from the 2011 PEP have completed the consultation reported their findings to council and the community.
